Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Research Chemist for a drug discovery team in Paarl. The role focuses on designing and synthesizing novel small molecules, optimizing lead compounds, and contributing to SAR studies in a state-of-the-art laboratory.

You will work closely with biologists and pharmacologists to advance candidates through the discovery pipeline, document procedures, and contribute to scientific reports and patent filings.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Proven expertise in synthetic route design and troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques for compound characterization.
• Strong problem-solving and collaborative abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel small molecules for drug discovery programs.
• Purify and characterize compounds using NMR, LC-MS, and HPLC.
• Conduct SAR studies in collaboration with medicinal chemists and biologists.
• Optimize lead compounds for potency, selectivity, and PK properties.
• Maintain meticulous records and contribute to reports and patent filings.
