Altos Labs in California is seeking a talented Medicinal Chemist to join a small-molecule drug discovery team. You will advance science, design drug-like molecules, and optimize compounds from hit identification through lead optimization in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You will collaborate with Drug Metabolism, Structural Biology, Biochemical Pharmacology, ML, and Safety teams, and may lead external CRO chemistry efforts. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with 6+ years post-PhD experience in chemical research, preferably in biotech/pharma.
• Proven expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry with lead author publications or patents.
• Experience in drug discovery from hit identification to lead optimization.
• Experience with structure-based drug design.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

Responsabilités

• Drive drug discovery programs by designing drug-like molecules and optimizing compounds toward development candidates.
• Collaborate across functions including Pharmacokinetics, Structural Biology, Biochemical & Cellular Pharmacology, ML, and Safety.
• Design and synthesize novel compounds using structure-, computation-, and property-based design methods; troubleshoot with CROs as needed.
• Analyze SAR data to guide design ideas and program direction.
• Address potency, properties, and ADMET challenges in lead optimization.
• Support internal synthesis work and general chemistry services across Altos Labs.
• Deliver clear scientific presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrate leadership potential for chemistry programs and CRO management if needed.
