Position Summary: Responsible for ensuring the effective daily operation of the assigned laboratory section under the general direction of the Laboratory Manager, Chief Technologist, and in conjunction with the Laboratory Director. Participates in committees related to the assigned section as needed. All duties will be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards, and will comply with all criteria mandated by appropriate accrediting and licensing agencies. Provides consultative services to the medical staff regarding the assigned section as instructed by the Laboratory Director, Associate Pathologist, or Laboratory Manager. Performs medical technologist duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

• Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science degree or HHS certification
• Minimum Experience: Sufficient previous experience in all areas of the laboratory; at least two years in the assigned laboratory section of responsibility
• Required Certification/Registration: ASCP certification or equivalent; WV license or eligibility; specialty certification preferred

Physical Demands: Occasional prolonged standing/walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, lifting

Working Conditions: Handles emergency or crisis situations; exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens; exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens; subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards
