MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
For West Virginia Labs:
1. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science OR Bachelor degree in a physical, chemical or biological science with one year of clinical lab training/experience.
2. WV Licensure as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) within 90 days of hire.
For Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Maryland Labs:
1. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science OR Bachelor of Science in a physical, chemical or biological science.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years of medical technologist OR medical laboratory technician experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

1. Coordinate daily workflow of laboratory area to ensure that laboratory needs are met.
2. Coordinate staffing schedules.
3. Provide feedback to manager/director on staff performance.
4. Coordinate special projects related to quality and performance measures.
5. Train and supervise medical technologists.
6. Serve as a point of contact for departmental concerns.
7. Process and analyze samples, in a timely and orderly fashion, and meet usual and customary levels of productivity, while following procedures for accurate identification.
8. Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments accordingly to policies and procedures.
9. Take appropriate action for quality control in all technical areas and follow infection control procedures for all job-related functions.
10. May perform quality control summaries.
11. Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
12. Complete forms and reports findings to nurses and/or physicians.
13. Interact with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results within the framework of medical technology.
14. Perform routine and basic laboratory testing within a designated area in the clinical laboratory.
15. Recognize testing inconsistency and take appropriate corrective action.
16. Maintain all patent and specimen records accurately, neatly, and legibly.
17. Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for ensuring a safe environment for workers, patients, and public.
18. Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures for safety, security, and infection control.
19. Communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff, and the public in general, in a manner that demonstrates professionalism and concern for their individual needs.
