Job summary

HM Insurance Group is seeking an experienced underwriting professional to price quotes, analyze contract structures, and manage risk for group plans. The role involves exercising underwriting authority, ensuring profitability, and guiding junior staff in support of HMIG’s risk framework.

The incumbent will prepare reports, analyze financial exhibits, and collaborate with clients, brokers, and internal teams to optimize enrollment and pricing strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Computer Science or other quantitative analysis discipline.
• 6 years relevant, progressive experience in the area of specialization.
• 5-7 years' underwriting experience in self-funded and converting fully insured prospects to self-funding.

Responsibilities

• Renew accounts and write new business at profitable levels to achieve targets.
• Calculate rates, interpret pricing policy, and adapt to unusual situations.
• Identify questionable claim patterns and develop recommendations for renewal clients and prospects.
• Apply corporate risk management policies and adjust for unusual scenarios.
• Identify non-compliance with risk management policies during enrollment.
• Recommend pricing adaptations for client-specific situations.
• Analyze member risk and coordinate with internal departments to manage it.
• Support initiatives such as fraud detection, compliance, wellness/disease management, and product development.
• Complete renewals and quotes, reviewing lower-level analyst work.
• Adapt to changing market priorities and requirements.
• Communicate pricing and policy adaptations with clear rationale.
