Qualifications

• One-year training/internship for health information administration.
• RHIA certification after passing national exam.
• Combined education/training experience may satisfy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze patient records for internal consistency and accuracy.
• Direct the operations of a hospital medical record department.
• Prepare statistical reports on medical data from clinical records.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local medical record requirements.

Education

Bachelor's degree in medical record science or health information administration

RHIA Certification

Certificate in medical record science or health information administration

60 semester hours with 12 biology and 6 mathematics

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

1-year training and internship program for health information administrators

Possession of RHIA Certificate after national exam

Five years of health information administration education/experience
