Job summary

Geisinger Medical Laboratories is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform and supervise analyses from various specimen sources in a clinical environment. The role requires meeting qualifications for patient care in the assigned area and acting as a technical expert when the Analytical Specialist is unavailable.

You will help implement new testing methods, participate in competency and proficiency testing, and contribute to inventory management and training of staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (Medical Technology/MLT) with ASCP/NAACLS accreditation or equivalent.
• Option 2+: major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science with ASCP certification.
• At least two years of experience as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical lab.

Responsibilities

• Performs and reports analyses from multiple specimen sources.
• Ensures competency, proficiency testing, quality control and maintenance.
• Acts as technical expert and makes decisions in absence of Analytical Specialist.
• Assists in evaluation/validation of new products, assays and instrumentation.
• Participates in training of employees and in Best Practice Committee activities.
• Meets qualifications and performance requirements of Medical Technologist position.

Education

Bachelor of Science degree + ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program

Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science + ASCP certification

Bachelor of Science degree with a major in laboratory science + 2+ years' experience as MLT
