Qualifications

  • For Level II, board certification in forensic pathology or subspecialty in pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Order autopsies and direct pathological investigations.
  • Perform autopsies and histological exams as needed.
  • Certify causes of death based on postmortem findings.
  • Prepare and file detailed investigative reports.
  • Testify in court and grand juries as needed.
  • Supervise City Medical Examiner I staff and teach.
  • Develop policies and new investigative techniques.
