Job summary

Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in New York City is seeking an experienced Deputy Commissioner of Forensic Laboratories / Chief of Laboratories. This executive will oversee multiple forensic laboratories, drive strategic planning, ensure regulatory compliance, and coordinate with Laboratory Directors to optimize performance and resources.

The role requires executive leadership experience in a complex laboratory setting, budgeting oversight, and strong project management and stakeholder

Qualifications

Must hold a bachelor’s degree in criminalistics, forensic science or a related field.
Preferred: four years of criminalistics/forensic science experience; executive management experience.
Experience with budgets, procurement, and capital planning in a complex organization.

Responsibilities

Provides executive direction and managerial oversight for the forensic laboratory portfolio, including multiple laboratories.
Leads strategic planning, administration, personnel management, and budgetary oversight.
Oversees quality assurance, accreditation, and regulatory compliance across laboratories.
Monitors turnaround times, workloads, and quality indicators; addresses backlogs and performance issues.
Guides capital planning, equipment maintenance, and major purchases for the labs.
Supports workforce planning and staffing across Laboratory Directors.
