Job summary

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in New York City seeks a Forensic Mortuary Technician to support autopsy and mortuary operations across borough facilities. You will assist autopsies, coordinate with mortuary staff, and maintain case records.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and one year of mortuary/autopsy experience; a NY driver license is required. The role may require 24-hour readiness during emergencies.

Qualifications

• A four year high school diploma or equivalent and one year of full-time mortuary/autopsy experience.
• For Assignment to Level II: one additional year of experience (total two years).
• For Assignment to Level III: three additional years of experience (total four years; two in a supervisory capacity).
• Preferred skills include death scene investigations, postmortem care, and proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Assist autopsies and postmortem examinations, including evisceration and dissection.
• Coordinate with faculty to support training of fellows, residents, medical students, and staff.
• Oversee mortuary staff and SOP development; resolve mortuary issues and coordinate with other agencies.
• Liaise with law enforcement and mortuary personnel city-wide to coordinate investigations and transportation.
• Prepare reports and maintain case records; ensure CMS data accuracy.
