Qualifications

• 3 years of medical coding experience including at least 1 year in advanced surgical coding.
• Current HIM/coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC; must obtain within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Code and audit complex surgical procedures (85–95% of workload) across multiple specialties.
• Review medical records to assign ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure daily coding quality, charging, and abstraction in designated areas.
• Maintain knowledge through in-services, seminars, and updates to coding manuals.
• Ensure data accuracy for clean billing.
• Contact physicians or staff to obtain information for accurate codes.
• Monitor provider documentation and conduct coding audits with education as needed.
• Support Revenue Cycle in claim development to resolve problem accounts.
• Investigate missing charges and reimbursement issues.
• Collaborate with physicians and providers to optimize coding.
• Stay current with coding/sequencing guidelines.
