Billings Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented HIM Coder I/II to code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from patient charts. The role requires assigning ICD-CM and CPT-4/HCPCS codes for encounters in a hospital and clinic setting, with emphasis on accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Starting wage is DOE; candidates should have High School or GED and training in anatomy, medical terminology and coding, with RHIT/RHIA or CPC/CCS certifications at hire preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required and equivalent training in anatomy, medical terminology and coding.
  • Certification in RHIT, RHIA, CPC or CCS at hire preferred or required.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10/PCS, CPT-4/HCPCS and coding/auditing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from patient charts.
  • Assign ICD-CM and CPT-4/HCPCS codes for encounters.
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with regulations and internal policies.
  • Query physicians to clarify documentation and educate on coding.
  • Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and participate in training and audits.
