Job summary

Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority is seeking a Certified Coder to perform ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding for reimbursement. You will review medical records, abstract pertinent data, and ensure accurate coding to support Medicare, Medicaid and private payer reimbursements.

The role requires RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC certification and at least one year of coding experience; ongoing education is expected to maintain certification.

Qualifications

• RHIA, RHIT or CCS, CCS-P or CPC certification is required.
• Must have a minimal of one year medical coding experience.
• Must enroll in continuing education to maintain certification.
• Six to twelve months to become proficient in most phases of the job.

Responsibilities

• Assigns and sequences ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Ensure final diagnosis/procedures match physician documentation.
• Abstracts information to identify secondary conditions and co-morbidities.
• Uses established guidelines to describe each diagnosis and procedure.
• Determines that physicians' stated diagnoses are valid and complete.
• Analyzes documentation to ensure proper E&M levels.
• Operates RPMS and EHR peripherals to update patient records.
• Performs duties according to safety procedures and tribal policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Reviews records for data completeness and coding accuracy.
• Ensures compliance with third-party payer requirements and guidelines.
