Job summary

Dandy is seeking a Staff Mechatronics Engineer to lead the mechatronic architecture for our Precision Robotics R&D program in the South Bay. You will bridge high-level robotic theory and hands-on implementation, integrating actuators, sensors, and motion control into production-ready systems for prosthetics manufacturing.

You will guide architecture decisions, perform rigorous analyses, and collaborate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams while traveling ~20% to suppliers

Qualifications

• 8+ years of machine-building experience in hardware, mechatronics, or robotics with system-level focus for production.
• A track record of one complex electromechanical system from concept to production ramp.
• BS/MS/PhD in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Robotics Engineering.
• Founding Mindset: technical leadership across teams and mentoring engineers.
• Technical Mastery: expert 3D CAD modeling and broad fabrication knowledge.
• Expert knowledge of robotic kinematics/dynamics, actuation, and simulation tools.
• Hands-on sensor integration, embedded systems, and manufacturing design execution.
• Soft Skills: analytical, problem-solving, and multi-project leadership in fast growth environments.
• Self-direction and proactive closure of issues with cross-team coordination.
• Willingness to travel to suppliers, manufacturing, and testing facilities (~20%).

Responsibilities

• Own the mechatronic architecture for the SPM platform family and define actuation, sensing, and motion-control approaches.
• Architect and integrate complex robotic hardware systems meeting micron-level reliability.
• Apply deep knowledge of additive and subtractive processes to design versatile manufacturing platforms.
• Set technical standards for design reviews, tolerance analysis, FMEA, and validation practices.
• Lead rapid prototyping and perform structural/thermal analyses; validate with tests and FMEA.
• Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams for integration.
• Influence long-term automation capability and roadmap for 2–3 years out.
