Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanisms Engineer to lead a team focused on deploying, actuating, and qualifying space mechanisms. You will guide gimbal systems and deployable structures, drive design trades, and ensure reliability across mission environments.

Collaboration with systems, structures, and manufacturing is essential to integrate mechanisms into the lunar/space vehicle program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.
  • 8+ years in mechanism design, development and testing in high-reliability fields.
  • 2+ years in people leadership or supervisory roles.
  • Experience designing deployables, latches, actuators, or separation systems.
  • Direct experience with gimbal system design for engine or antenna actuation.
  • Experience with deployable structures such as solar arrays or landing legs.
  • Strong understanding of kinematics, tribology, and failure modes.
  • Proven record of leading design reviews and technical decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of mechanisms engineers and guide career development.
  • Own the technical strategy for mechanism design, development, integration, and qualification.
  • Guide design of deployable, actuated, and separation mechanisms including hinges and release devices.
  • Lead design and qualification of gimbal systems supporting engine actuation or pointing.
  • Drive design trade studies, architecture decisions, and buy/build choices for mechanisms subsystems.
  • Ensure mechanisms meet structural, thermal, kinematic, and reliability requirements.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, structures, avionics, and manufacturing for integration.
  • Oversee test planning, execution, and anomaly resolution for qualification and life testing.
  • Manage workload, staffing plans, and hiring to meet program needs.
  • Establish engineering best practices and participate in design reviews.
