Job summary

QuEra Computing Inc. in Boston seeks a Senior Mechanical Technician to be the hands-on backbone of our Hardware Engineering team, fabricating, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical and fluid systems inside our quantum computers.

You’ll translate tacit knowledge into procedures and fixtures for contract manufacturers, collaborating with engineers, scientists, and co-ops on live machines. This senior role offers high autonomy and visible impact on builds.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a mechanical technician or mechanical assembler in a precision hardware environment.
• Able to hold ±0.010" when needed on mill.
• Hands-on experience with fluid systems — fittings, tubing, manifolds, pumps or chillers — and with pressure and leak testing.
• Comfortable around sensitive optics and electronics: cleanliness, ESD, and "measure twice" habits.
• Able to lift 50 lb, work on ladders and spend most of the day on your feet in a lab.

Responsibilities

• Machine and module assembly: build and integrate mechanical subassemblies for our machines.
• Test, inspection, and troubleshooting: execute pressure and leak tests; diagnose problems.
• Fabrication and prototyping: run the mechanical development room and machine fixtures.
• Manufacturing and contract-manufacturer support: create build instructions and perform inspections.
• Lab infrastructure and safety: maintain lab infrastructure and mentor juniors.
