Job summary

Firestorm in San Diego, CA, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician who will own aircraft and prototype builds from kit to functional hardware, including test campaigns and field support.

You will mentor technicians, red-line drawings, ensure buildability, and drive improvements through ECR. The role demands hands-on bias and readiness for field and lab work.

This position offers onsite work, relocation support, travel up to 25%, and opportunities to impact defense manufacturing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• U.S. Person as defined by 22 CFR 120.62 required for ITAR compliance.
• 5+ years of hands-on aerospace/defense hardware technician experience.
• Experience reading engineering drawings with GD&T and assembly procedures.
• Wire harness fabrication and testing experience.
• Experience setting up and executing mechanical/structural tests with instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Own complete aircraft and major assembly builds from kit to functional hardware.
• Fabricate and verify wire harnesses and ensure proper pin-out and continuity.
• Install and rig mechanisms and propulsion/fuel systems; perform leak checks.
• Lead test campaigns with data acquisition setup and documentation.
• Mentor junior technicians and drive build corrections back to engineering.
