Armstrong World Industries (AWI) seeks a Senior/Principal Mechanical Project Engineer in Lancaster, PA to lead and execute major capital projects around manufacturing equipment and processes, partnering with engineering, maintenance, operations and outside vendors.

You will mentor engineers, apply Lean and Agile methods, manage budgeting and scheduling, and ensure safety and reliability across plant sites while traveling up to 50% in support of project execution. Relocation offered: No.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–7 years of project planning and execution experience in manufacturing/industrial environments.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams (engineering, maintenance, operations, external vendors).
• Hands-on experience supporting equipment installation, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Experience with SAP or ERP systems; capital project estimating and cost control.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute major capital projects, ensuring delivery to cost, schedule, safety, and performance objectives.
• Specify production equipment and partner with vendors to design, procure, install, and commission assets.
• Support projects from concept through installation, commissioning, and start-up.
• Investigate equipment/process issues, perform root-cause analysis, implement corrective actions.
• Apply mechanical engineering and precision maintenance to support safe, reliable manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, operations, and vendors on cross-functional teams.
• Drive Lean and Agile improvements and mentor engineers and maintenance personnel.
• Support plant reliability initiatives and asset condition programs.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to less-experienced staff.
• Assist with project estimating, budgeting, cost tracking, and financial management.
