Job summary

Baltimore City Government is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician III to operate hand tools and machine shop equipment for installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical components in water or wastewater facilities.

Incumbents work with moderate supervision, may have 24-hour call-back for emergencies, and perform duties in environments with exposure to chemicals and metals. A six-month probation is required for new hires.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
• Experience: Four years of mechanical maintenance and repair work.
• Equivalency: Six months of additional experience may substitute for each year of high school/GED.
• Coursework substitution: One year of power mechanic or machine shop coursework may substitute for six months of experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates a range of hand tools and machine shop equipment for installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical components in water or wastewater facilities.
• Work is performed with moderate supervision and may require 24-hour callback for emergencies.
• Physical exertion is common, with exposure to chemicals, dust, heat/cold, and moving equipment.
