Job summary

MSD in Gaithersburg, MD is hiring a Mechanical Engineer I to set goals for new instrumentation and support existing systems. You will lead mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting, partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver complex assemblies.

Candidates should have a Mechanical Engineering degree (advanced degrees preferred) and extensive CAD experience, with strong GD&T skills and GMP/ISO background. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Medical or scientific instrument/consumables design experience required.
• Experience in an ISO cGMP environment required.
• Demonstrated CAD experience required.
• Experience integrating electromechanical systems, precision fluidics and thermal management systems strongly desired.
• Experience with injection molded components design preferred.
• Experience with heat management and temperature controls preferred.
• Proficiency with GD&T tolerancing practices is essential.

Responsibilities

• Leads cross-functional teams to support the design and development of MSD instrumentation.
• Lead mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of new instrumentation designs.
• Contribute to the development of requirements and specifications for new instrumentation.
• Present designs and issues to senior engineering and management; develop test protocols.
• Provide oversight for planning, design, build and testing of manufacturing test fixtures.
• Oversee development of assembly and test procedures for new designs.
• Interact with outside vendors and supplier quality to source parts.
• Perform design in ISO/cGMP processes and lead design controls documentation.
• Participate in electromechanical and systems integration activities.
