Job summary

Daksta is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of construction projects. You will work with preconstruction and project teams, contributing to all estimating phases and supporting successful bid submissions.

Responsibilities include developing conceptual and detailed estimates, reviewing drawings and specs, and coordinating with subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience in commercial/mechanical construction estimating, with exposure to Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual estimating.
• Strong understanding of drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and estimating principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual projects.
• Develop conceptual and detailed estimates at varying stages of design for the Mechanical Scope of work.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and other contract documentation.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs and develop comprehensive pricing breakdowns.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring competitive and complete pricing.
• Liaise with subcontractors and vendors to clarify scope, pricing, and technical requirements.
• Assist in developing bid packages, estimate summaries, bid analyses, and general conditions pricing.
• Support the preparation and submission of competitive project proposals.
• Develop preliminary project schedules to support the estimating process.
• Collaborate with preconstruction, operations, and project teams on a range of estimating and cost planning activities.
• Undertake additional estimating and preconstruction responsibilities as required.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree qualified in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related construction discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Previous experience within commercial/mechanical construction estimating, with exposure to Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual estimating methodologies.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and estimating principles.
• Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyse and manage project cost data effectively.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and general construction technology platforms.
• Knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and industry best practices.
• Experience with scheduling or design software is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively within fast-paced project environments while meeting critical deadlines.
