Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is seeking an MEP Estimator to join our team. This role provides comprehensive preconstruction estimating for HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler, Electrical, and related low-voltage systems for complex commercial projects.

You will lead MEP pricing, review plans and specifications, develop conceptual estimates, and collaborate with design and project teams to ensure accurate, competitive bids and successful project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with MEP estimating and construction practices preferred.
  • Proficiency in BIM and takeoff software.
  • Strong math and reporting abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the MEP portion of estimates with complete scopes.
  • Review drawings/plans to align pricing with scope.
  • Develop conceptual estimates during design phases.
  • Present MEP pricing to clients and engineers.
  • Coordinate with marketing on technical proposal aspects.

Job description

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is seeking an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Estimator to join our team! This individual will provide comprehensive preconstruction estimating for Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing, Fire Sprinkler Systems, Electrical, Communications, Life Safety, and other low-voltage systems for complex commercial construction projects.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Estimating and Cost Analysis:
    • Lead the MEP portion of estimates, ensuring all scopes are coordinated and complete.
    • Review and interpret narratives, plans, and specifications to ensure alignment between pricing and scope of work.
    • Develop conceptual estimates based on limited information throughout project design phases.
    • Contribute to the development and review of design alternatives, cost options, and value engineering.
    • Create and manage MEP pricing bid strategies, breakouts, and work packages.
    • Present and explain MEP pricing and costs to clients and engineers.
    • Assist project teams in evaluating proposals and developing scopes of work for subcontracts.
    • Coordinate with marketing personnel on technical aspects of proposals.
  • Design Review:
    • Conduct reviews of Conceptual, SD, DD, and CD drawings to confirm schematics and specifications are complete.
    • Maintain working knowledge of relevant building codes, conducting research as needed.
    • Ensure utility coordination among civil, electrical, and mechanical/data disciplines.
    • Participate constructively in project meetings, providing input on constructability, logistics, sequencing, design considerations, and pricing.
  • Scheduling:
    • Provide input on task durations and scheduling.
    • Identify and communicate lead times and testing requirements for schedule incorporation.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative approach toward clients and subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in fundamental mathematics and spatial visualization.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to write reports, develop forms, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
Preferred Requirements:

Experience Levels: This position covers a wide range of technical disciplines, and expertise may be weighted toward either Mechanical or Electrical systems. Candidates are encouraged to apply with the understanding that a specific title may be assigned based on their qualifications. This role description reflects a more experienced MEP Estimator; however, we welcome candidates ranging from entry-level to experienced professionals. Those with less than 5 years of directly relevant experience may consider this description as a goal for professional development.

  • Entry Level: Less than 5 years of commercial MEP estimating, construction, engineering, or design experience.
  • Mid Level: 5 to 10 years of commercial MEP estimating, construction, engineering, or design experience.
  • Senior Level: More than 10 years of commercial MEP estimating, construction, engineering, or design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Science, or a related field (preferred but not required).
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is desirable but not required.
  • Familiarity with MEP system installation methods in commercial facilities.
  • Experience with Quantity Takeoff, Timberline, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, Navisworks, Assemble).
