Job summary

Daksta | Connecting Mission Critical Talent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Estimator to support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates across a variety of construction projects. This role collaborates with preconstruction and project teams to ensure cost accuracy and successful bid submissions.

You will prepare detailed estimates for Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual projects, develop take-offs, review drawings, and obtain subcontractor quotes.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience in commercial/mechanical construction estimating across hard bid, design-build, and conceptual methods.
• Strong reading of drawings, specs, quantity take-offs, and estimating principles.
• Proficient with estimating software and Excel; able to analyze cost data effectively.
• Familiarity with MS Office and construction technology platforms.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual projects.
• Develop conceptual and detailed estimates at varying stages of design for the Mechanical scope of work.
• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and other contract documentation.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs and develop comprehensive pricing breakdowns.
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring competitive pricing.
• Liaise with subcontractors and vendors to clarify scope, pricing, and technical requirements.
• Assist in developing bid packages, estimate summaries, bid analyses, and general conditions pricing.
• Support the preparation and submission of competitive project proposals.
• Develop preliminary project schedules to support the estimating process.
• Collaborate with preconstruction, operations, and project teams on a range of estimating and cost planning activities.
• Undertake additional estimating and preconstruction responsibilities as required.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree qualified in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related construction discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Previous experience within commercial/mechanical construction estimating, with exposure to Hard Bid, Design-Build, and Conceptual estimating methodologies.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs, and estimating principles.
• Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyse and manage project cost data effectively.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and general construction technology platforms.
• Knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and industry best practices.
• Experience with scheduling or design software is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively within fast-paced project environments while meeting critical deadlines.
