Qualifications

• 8+ years of estimating experience in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or related construction trades
• High school diploma or GED required
• Proven ability to independently estimate large, complex projects from takeoff through final pricing
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specs, and contract documents
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, construction methods, and labor productivity
• Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills with keen attention to detail
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain and defend pricing
• Ability to manage multiple bids and meet firm deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel to job sites and client meetings as needed
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Experience with design-build/design-assist or mission-critical/data center projects

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of complete, accurate mechanical estimates for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal scopes
• Review drawings, specs, addenda, and bid documents to define scope and risks
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop pricing using estimating software and data
• Solicit and analyze vendor/subcontractor quotes for complete coverage
• Develop project schedules and general conditions assumptions for pricing
• Prepare final bid summaries and recommend pricing strategy, margin, and alternates
• Partner with Business Development and clients during preconstruction
• Identify value engineering opportunities and substitutions
• Attend pre-bid meetings, plan reviews, and site walks to verify conditions
• Track permits and local requirements
• Deliver a complete estimate turnover package to Operations
• Support Project Managers with change order pricing
• Capture cost data to improve future estimates
• Mentor and train estimators and interns
• Review estimates for accuracy and consistency
• Maintain estimating standards, templates, bid logs, and vendor lists
• Build relationships with manufacturers and trade partners to keep pricing current
