Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join the UAV design team in Moorpark, CA. You will design and test mechanical systems, from concepts through detailed design, including prototyping and testing of next-gen UAV subsystems.

Responsibilities include optimizing structural/electro-mechanical designs, preparing drawings, and supporting manufacturing with BOMs and supplier coordination. Strong CAD, prototyping and thermo-mechanical skills required.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with hardware experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required
• Experience designing machined parts, composite parts, plastic parts, sheet metal, wire assemblies
• Hands-on prototyping experience with lightweight robotic systems
• Experience with electro-mechanical systems and thermodynamic constraints
• Ability to create engineering drawings compliant with ASME Y14 standards and proficient in CAD tools

Responsibilities

• Designs structural components, electro-mechanical design, payload mechanical design, ground equipment design
• Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings and reports; assists with planning and scheduling work
• Collaborates with engineers to implement procedures and resolve malfunctions
• Develops manufacturing drawings and BOMs according to industry standards
• Researches proposals to evaluate feasibility, cost and maintenance
• Supports design reviews and coordinates with manufacturing and suppliers
• Solves a wide range of issues creatively within project constraints
• Researches and re-engineers to propose alternate solutions
• Guides lower-level engineers and cross-functional team members
