Job summary

TYLin in New York leads the Rail + Transit team delivering complex municipal and regional projects. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will guide design and delivery of HVAC, tunnel ventilation and vertical transportation systems for high-profile rail facilities.

You will manage multi-discipline packages, mentor staff, and ensure adherence to NFPA, ASHRAE, and NYC Building Code standards while coordinating with architects, electrical, and life-safety teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in rail/transit or complex facilities.
• Deep expertise in HVAC and tunnel ventilation design for underground or enclosed infrastructure.
• Experience leading elevator/vertical transportation design for station projects.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC Building Code and transit design criteria.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage design deliverables on major programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of HVAC, tunnel ventilation, smoke control, and building systems for transit stations and facilities.
• Serve as technical authority for vertical transportation systems including elevators.
• Manage design packages from concept through final design with drawings, specs, and reports.
• Oversee calculations, airflow modeling, sizing, and performance-based design.
• Ensure compliance with codes and standards and coordinate with architects and systems teams.
• Provide project management leadership, schedules, budgets, and client interface.
• Mentor mechanical staff and grow the Rail + Transit design capability.
• Participate in design reviews, QA/QC, and technical decision making.
