Job summary

TYLin is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for Rail + Transit design in New York, focusing on HVAC, tunnel ventilation, smoke control, and vertical transportation systems for MTA stations and transit facilities.

The role emphasizes high-quality design deliverables, adherence to life-safety standards, and collaboration across disciplines to support complex rail projects in the NY region with potential growth to other markets in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus).
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in rail, transit, tunnels, or complex building systems.
• Strong technical expertise in HVAC and ventilation design for enclosed/underground environments.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC, tunnel ventilation, and smoke control systems for underground stations and tunnels.
• Coordinate vertical transportation systems including elevators and accessibility infrastructure.
• Prepare contract drawings, specs, and design documentation for multidisciplinary transit projects.
• Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and airflow/system modeling.
• Apply NFPA, ASHRAE, and local transit authority requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, structural, electrical, and fire/life safety teams.
