Job summary

Infleqtion seeks a system-level mechanical engineer to design the infrastructure, mounting, and environmental-survivability architecture for the Quantum Gravity Gradiometer (QGG). The role spans development to terrestrial and space environments, focusing on mechanical integration, damping, isolation, and thermal interfaces to preserve quantum measurement precision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in precision mechanical, opto-mechanical, aerospace, or high-reliability hardware roles.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks CAD (parts, assemblies, drawings, configuration control).
  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation or similar structural/thermal analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of first-principles mechanics, tolerancing, materials for vacuum/space.
  • Experience in DFx (design for cost, manufacturing, assembly, test, reliability).
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware development and flight/production readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Design the QGG sensor head and related hardware for development, microgravity tests, terrestrial and space applications, balancing structural dynamics, thermal performance, and alignment stability.
  • Present progress, analyses, risks, design decisions, and test results to senior management and customers.
  • Lead modeling, simulation, analysis, and test-correlation for structural, thermal, modal, vibration, and tolerance performance.
  • Oversee mechanical integration of sensor-head subsystems with optical, electrical, vacuum, and thermal interfaces.
  • Source and manage key suppliers for precision machined parts and opto-mechanical hardware; drive DFx improvements.
  • Support product lifecycle reviews, configuration control, and environmental test readiness.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers in practical mechanical design, tolerancing, and manufacturability.
  • Travel as needed up to 10% for customer and supplier engagements.
