Job summary

RESPEC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Manager to lead planning, design, and execution of complex mechanical projects across energy, wastewater, mining, and industrial sectors. You will guide multidisciplinary teams from proposal through final design, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with codes.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in mechanical engineering, a WV/PA PE license, and strong technical writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering is required.
  • 10+ years in mechanical engineering with energy/industrial focus.
  • WA/PA PE license required; other states a plus.
  • Experience in Natural Gas or Refinery industries or similar.
  • Experience leading project mechanical design and collaborating on multi-discipline projects.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply standard engineering techniques on complex projects.
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate detailed phases of project work.
  • Complete projects from proposal to final design, delegating tasks as needed.

RESPEC seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Manager to support our energy, wastewater, mining, and industrial projects.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Manager leads the planning, design, and execution of complex mechanical engineering projects from proposal through final design, construction, and closeout. This role applies advanced engineering judgment to develop innovative, practical solutions while ensuring technical excellence, quality control, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. The position is responsible for defining project scope, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans; coordinating multidisciplinary teams; and providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff. In addition to overseeing design and construction activities, this role serves as a key client interface, supports business development and proposal efforts, and contributes to RESPEC's growth through technical expertise, collaboration, and strategic problem‑solving. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on complex projects
  • Plan, schedule, conduct and/or coordinate detailed phases of project work
  • Complete projects from proposal to final design, including delegating work tasks to engineering and drafting staff
  • Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications
  • Provide final technical review and quality control of team work product
  • Develop project scope, budget, timeline and staff utilization in proposal preparation, particularly with respect to technical efforts
  • Perform calculations using engineering formulas and skills
  • Independently complete design work using computer-aided or manual drafting techniques or be able to delegate such work to staff engineers and designers
  • Prepare reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
  • Serve as a technical advisor and mentor to junior level project team members
  • Devise new approaches to problems encountered
  • Participate in marketing, sales, and business development efforts
  • Perform sites assessments and construction oversight
Required
  • Bachelor of science in mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of related experience in mechanical engineering with an emphasis on energy or industrial projects, including piping and equipment design
  • West Virginia or Pennsylvania PE required, license in other states a plus
  • Experience:
    • in the Natural Gas or Refinery Industries or similar
    • leading project mechanical design
    • collaborating on multi-discipline projects
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Self‑motivated, energetic, and able to take on new tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Detail oriented & well organized with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Solution focused
  • Desire to learn and advance technical skills and understanding
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business‑related travel
Preferred
  • Experience with 3-D and 2-D mechanical drafting
