Job summary

WSP invites a Lead Generation Mechanical Engineer to join the Federal Power and Energy Team. The role focuses on designing mechanical piping and equipment for 10 to 20MW campus generation projects, with emphasis on reciprocating engine/generator systems and compliance with federal standards.

The ideal candidate will mentor junior staff, lead cross-disciplinary design efforts, and manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment. U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 10+ years of mechanical design experience on power generation projects.
  • Must be a licensed PE.
  • US citizenship is required by the client.
  • Experience with federal government project design and UFCs/UFGSs/FCs/NFPA/ICC standards.
  • Experience in a consulting environment.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor others.
  • Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools and design standards.
  • Experience designing to NAVFAC and USACE design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of mechanical piping and equipment for renewable and fossil power generation facilities.
  • Perform piping design activities including sizing, pressure drop calculations, stress analysis, pipe support design, pipeline lists, valve lists.
  • Prepare plant layout drawings.
  • Develop PFDs and P&IDs for power plant systems.
  • Prepare specifications and data sheets for mechanical equipment; evaluate bids.
  • Interface with suppliers, clients, and other disciplines.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with project scope, permits, and regulatory requirements.
