Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Concord, NC is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, installation, and optimization of plant equipment and utility systems. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance, and process engineering to improve uptime, throughput, and safety.

You will translate manufacturing needs into engineering specifications, manage projects from scope through turnover, and drive continuous improvement using structured problem-solving methodologies.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of equipment or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, material handling, fluids, and safety practices.
• Ability to translate manufacturing needs into engineering requirements and specifications.
• Proficiency with 2D/3D design tools (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Strong project management across scope, cost, schedule, and contractor coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead plant engineering projects from scope to turnover to operations and maintenance.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for mechanical issues.
• Define mechanical design requirements and acceptance criteria for systems.
• Develop and maintain equipment layouts and installation drawings.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, automation, and EHS to improve uptime and efficiency.
• Track project schedules and communicate status to leadership.
