Job summary

MP Materials in Mountain Pass, CA seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support design, operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of mechanical systems across our industrial facilities. You will troubleshoot equipment issues, lead capital projects, and drive reliability and safety improvements.

The role requires collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to develop practical solutions that enhance equipment performance and align with business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• Experience with mechanical equipment design, maintenance and operation.
• Knowledge of ASME/ANSI/API/AISC codes and standards is desirable.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for plant operations, maintenance, and capital projects to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical equipment and systems.
• Lead the design, specification, evaluation, and implementation of mechanical equipment including pumps, piping, conveyors, crushers, rotating equipment, tanks, and process equipment.
• Develop scopes of work, technical specifications, equipment standards, and bid packages for maintenance and capital projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical equipment failures and perform root cause analyses.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to identify improvement opportunities and cost-saving measures.
• Review and approve drawings, calculations, and vendor submittals for compliance with standards and codes.
• Provide technical leadership for equipment upgrades and plant modernization efforts.
• Support preventive maintenance and inspection programs with engineering recommendations.
