Job summary

Ramboll is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead plant layout and piping work for chemical, power, and industrial facilities in Charlotte, NC. You will influence equipment arrangement, piping standards, and cost estimates while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires a licensed Professional Engineer with 10+ years in mechanical engineering, strong ASME knowledge, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Caesar II.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain licensure.
• 10+ years in mechanical engineering with piping/plant layout focus.
• Experience with chemical, power, or industrial equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of ASME, SMACNA, NFPA, API codes and related standards.
• Experience with ASME B31.3 piping stress and flexibility analyses.
• Ability to manage budgets and schedules for projects.
• Strong communication and creative engineering mindset.
• Proficient in Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Caesar II is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop equipment arrangement and piping drawings for new and retrofit plants.
• Create specifications for piping and mechanical equipment.
• Prepare conceptual designs and early-stage cost estimates.
• Conduct piping flexibility analyses and stress checks.
• Design and specify piping supports and utilities.
• Apply ASME B31.1/B31.3 and related codes per Ramboll standards.
• Develop P&IDs and size utility equipment for projects.
• Collaborate with client and multi-discipline teams for cohesive designs.
• Visit job sites for retrofit projects; expect day trips and some overnight travel.
• Ensure designs meet Ramboll project execution standards and safety policies.
