Qualifications

• 5–10 years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
• Experience with mechanical design software and large assemblies.
• Experience with revision control software (e.g., PDM).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to collaborate with highly technical peers.
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally to install/service machines.
• Experience designing parts for ultra‑high vacuum environments.
• Thrives in a startup environment with a troubleshooting mindset.
• Ability to lift 20–25 lbs as needed.
• Vision capabilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus.

Responsibilities

• Create models, detailed parts, and fabrication drawings from concepts.
• Collaborate with software, electrical, systems, and physicists on tool prototypes.
• Design, assemble, and install new instruments; prototype with 3D printing and machine shop.
• Prepare BOMs and coordinate procurement with vendors.
• Assist in developing prototypes for customer tools.
• Design feasibility tests and verify fabrication, assembly, and installation.
• Conduct FEA, thermal modeling, and stress analysis.
