Job summary

Kairos Power is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, implement, and optimize process equipment for TRISO annular fuel fabrication. You will collaborate with operations, QA, and EHS to deliver robust, safe, and high-performance systems.

Responsibilities include prototyping, system integration, and leading design reviews, with a focus on safety and manufacturability. 5–6+ years in chemical/process engineering is preferred. Onsite role in Albuquerque, NM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or similar field.
• 6+ years of relevant engineering experience in chemical/manufacturing settings.
• Experience designing, commissioning, or supporting mechanical or process equipment.
• Experience with PFDs, H&MBs, P&IDs, equipment lists and utility consumption lists.
• Experience with hazardous processes and safety controls.
• Commissioning vendor-supplied equipment and in-house equipment.
• Mechatronics or electromechanical experience desirable.
• Hands-on process automation (PLC, DCS, SCADA) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and test prototype assemblies for prototypic conditions.
• Lead design, manufacture, install, commission and operate FOAK equipment.
• Perform calculations, analyses and design evaluations for equipment.
• Monitor performance and implement design changes to improve reliability.
• Develop SOPs and maintenance documentation for safe operations.
• Lead cross-functional system integration across mechanical, electrical, controls and software.
• Ensure compliance with codes, safety regulations and site standards.
• Identify automation opportunities and measure cost-savings impact.
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for manufacture/procurement.
