Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NNS) in Newport News, VA, seeks a Mechanical Engineer 4 to plan, design, and develop mechanical systems for production facilities and vessels.

You will lead mechanical and utility systems, piping, and fire protection efforts, guiding inspections and projects to code compliance in a large industrial setting. Responsibilities include technical leadership to customers, root cause analysis, and coordination with contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 9 years of exempt experience.
• Master's degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience.
• Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
• Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a O41 Plant Engineering SME and technical lead for facilities' mechanical systems, utility systems, process piping, fire protection/life safety systems, production equipment, construction and repair specifications/requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to internal and external customers on mechanical-related matters to ensure inspections, routine maintenance, and construction projects are performed in accordance with applicable codes and NNS-specific specifications/requirements
• Act as a lead in performing root cause analysis and developing robust corrective action to drive the resolution of unplanned events.
• Perform mechanical evaluations, conduct building/infrastructure assessments and respond to emergent safety related issues in a fast paced, large industrial facility setting.
• Direct work assignments of consultants and contractors to ensure shipyard facilities are maintained in a safe condition.
• Support design reviews of contractor project submittals to ensure that proper design, installation and commissioning is accomplished while complying to applicable codes, regulations and best practices
• Prepare and/or review studies and make recommendations supporting the development of the Facilities' Long Range Strategic Plan (LRSP) for critical systems and equipment.
• Support key strategic business development and strategic initiatives as assigned and developed. Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget
• Serve as a mentor for younger engineers within the O41 Plant Engineering organization andassigned Engineering team
