The candidate will perform stress analyses, develop detailed production drawings, and guide testing and qualification activities to ensure reliability and compliance with API/ISO standards. Hybrid work options may apply.
Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mud Pumps & High-Pressure Fluid End Equipment
Location: Houston, TX (or Remote/Hybrid as applicable)
Industry: Oil & Gas / Energy Equipment
Employment Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire
Our client, a global leader in energy equipment and technology solutions, is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their engineering design group. This role is focused on the design, development, and engineering refinement of mud pumps, positive displacement pumps, frac pumps, and associated high-pressure fluid end equipment.
The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in heavy machine design, finite element stress analysis, and rotating/reciprocating equipment. You will play a pivotal role in driving product innovation, enhancing mechanical reliability, and delivering high-performance surface equipment for demanding upstream field operations.
Mechanical Engineering & Equipment Optimization: Provide technical oversight and high-level engineering support for heavy mechanical systems and rotating/reciprocating equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency, safety, and reliability.
New Product Development & Machine Design: Conceptualize, engineer, and refine innovative mechanical solutions for positive displacement pumps, mud pumps, and hydraulic power systems.
Structural & Stress Analysis: Perform advanced stress, strain, and fatigue analyses (FEA) on critical pressure-containing and load-bearing components to guarantee structural integrity and long-term durability.
Detailed Design & Engineering Documentation: Create detailed engineering layouts, manufacturing models, sub-assemblies, and production drawings while conducting tolerance stack-up analyses and rigorous design reviews.
Vendor & Component Specification: Select, analyze, and specify buy-out mechanical and hydraulic components, ensuring strict compatibility, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Testing & Validation: Design, execute, and oversee comprehensive test plans and qualification testing for components and sub-systems; analyze empirical data to validate performance and design parameters.
Technical Reporting & Industry Standards: Generate thorough engineering reports, calculations, and compliance documentation in alignment with quality management systems and international industry standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with manufacturing, quality, field operations, and procurement teams throughout initial equipment conceptualization, prototyping, and full-scale production.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
Experience: 5+ years of direct machine design and mechanical development experience in heavy industrial machinery or oilfield surface equipment.
Domain Expertise: Demonstrated experience in the design, engineering, or testing of mud pumps, positive displacement pumps, frac pumps, or high-pressure power/fluid ends.
CAD & FEA Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in modern 3D CAD modeling tools (Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor) and FEA packages (Ansys or SolidWorks Simulation).
Schematic Literacy: Ability to read, review, and interpret complex P&IDs, hydraulic circuits, and electrical schematics.
Standards & Certifications: Knowledge of industry standards (API 7K, API 6A, API 8C) and experience operating within ISO 9001 or API Q1 quality environments.
Hydraulic Systems: Strong understanding of high-pressure fluid power design, hydraulic component selection, and fluid dynamics.
Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical problem-solving abilities, precision detail orientation, and clear technical communication skills.
Preferred Hands-On Background: Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, welding, metal fabrication, or machining hobbies is highly desired.
