Job summary

Intuitive is seeking a seasoned Staff Mechanical Engineer to sustain and improve product performance and reliability for complex surgical instruments. You will work across engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve design and process challenges, drive root-cause investigations, and develop cost reductions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years with a Master's; or a PhD with 5 years.
• Strong mechanical design and analytical skills.
• Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, MIM, stamping, extrusion, machining).
• Knowledge of metals and plastics and material properties.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA) principles.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD to design complex assemblies; SolidWorks preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T and documentation for medium-high volume manufacturing.
• Ability to drive complex decisions and set priorities in dynamic environments.
• Self-motivated, hands-on, and able to work in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate in cross-functional teams to understand product performance, supply chain, and manufacturing issues.
• Identify, develop, test and document solutions meeting customer and business needs.
• Analyze instruments and components, develop DOEs, collect data, and report findings.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing and suppliers by reviewing processes and fixtures.
• Drive anomalies to closure and perform root-cause investigation of defects.
• Set individual goals aligned with project objectives.
• Support design and development of new Advanced Energy instruments.
• Lead small technically focused teams and mentor engineers.
• Travel as needed to support projects.
