Job summary

United Mechanical is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to act as a hands-on technical lead within the Engineering Department. You will ensure code-compliant, buildable permit and IFC documents and oversee field startup, providing feedback from the installation.

This role has project accountability with no direct reports and mentors junior engineers. You will own design execution from basis-of-design through IFC, lead system selection, sizing, and document strategy, while coordinating with PMs

Qualifications

• 7–10 years’ experience in the commercial construction space.
• 4-year engineering degree or equivalent.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required.
• Excellent understanding of HVAC fundamentals, equipment, installation standards and procedures.
• California codes knowledge and local requirements are essential.

Responsibilities

• Serve as hands-on technical lead designer for permit and IFC deliverables.
• Own mechanical design execution from basis-of-design through IFC deliverables.
• Design and troubleshoot air-side and water-side systems.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and field teams for proposals, site walks and RFIs.
• Provide field support during construction: submittal reviews and clarifications.
