Job summary

Jobtailor in Berkeley, CA seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of complex subsystems from concept to manufacturing.

You will define architecture, select components, and drive DFM/DFA, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration with industrial design, software, and supply chain teams. Travel overseas to Southeast Asia is required as needed.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of industry experience in consumer products or electro-mechanical systems.
• Strong fundamentals in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluids.
• Experience with sheet metal, CNC, plastics, welding, die-casting, etc.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) expertise.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of mechanical subsystems from concept through manufacturing.
• Define system architecture, component selection, and tradeoffs for performance and durability.
• Create CAD models, assemblies, and GD&T annotations.
• Ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, scalability, and serviceability.
• Build and test prototypes to validate function and reliability.
• Develop requirements, test plans, and documentation for validation.
• Lead design reviews (PDRs, CDRs, production readiness).
• Collaborate with suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturing to meet quality and schedules.
• Identify opportunities for product improvement and cost reduction.
• Work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, software, product, and supply chain teams.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues and implement robust solutions.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers.
• Willingness to travel overseas (Southeast Asia).
