Job summary

Rhoda AI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Mountain View to own the upper arm of our humanoid robot platform. You will lead shoulder/elbow structures, torso and lower-arm interfaces, electrical packaging, and harness trunk for robust, manufacturable designs under high loads.

You will collaborate with actuation and EE teams, perform FMEAs, plan prototypes, and mentor juniors to shape the physical architecture of a next-generation robot.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; MS preferred.
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience for robots or complex electromechanical products.
• Ability to make engineering trade-offs with quantitative rigor.
• Experience designing high-load structural components with analysis.
• Experience defining interfaces with other engineering teams.
• Experience integrating high-torque actuators into structures.
• Experience packaging PCBA/electronics in constrained envelopes.
• Strong thermal design knowledge.
• CAD proficiency with complex assemblies and tolerance analysis.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and DFA.

Responsibilities

• Design upper arm joints, links, housings, considering stiffness, mass, and manufacturability.
• Define torso interface and load paths; drive closure with torso team.
• Define elbow interface and attachment with lower arm.
• Integrate actuators with mounting, envelope, and heat rejection.
• Own harness trunk and power/data routing across joints.
• Package PCBAs and sensor boards in the limb; coordinate with EE.
• Lead thermal design and validation for high-power actuators.
• Participate in FMEAs and validation strategies; lead root-cause analysis.
• Create CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and BOMs; support reviews.
• Plan prototype builds and test campaigns; iterate from results.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise design practice standards.
