Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC design for healthcare and other projects in the San Francisco area. You will drive multi-disciplinary design efforts, work with stakeholders and authorities, and mentor junior staff.

You will apply sustainable design methods, prepare technical documents, and maintain strong client relations while delivering high-quality systems for decarbonization and resilience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • 8+ years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including hospital projects.
  • AutoCAD and Revit MEP proficiency.
  • Familiarity with CMC, OSHPD, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, FGI/ASHRAE 170, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality and NFPA.

  • Lead mechanical engineering designs and provide multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines and work with project managers to deliver coordinated design deliverables.

Our West Coast healthcare team is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary team anchored in San Francisco, Los Angeles or Oakland. Arup is known for designing innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients throughout the United States, and sometimes globally.

You will work on projects within the Healthcare industry and beyond. The Opportunity
  • Leading mechanical engineering designs and providing multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects. Design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
  • Working in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials such as HCAi to deliver integrated projects through construction.
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables
  • Assisting, Supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
  • Maintain strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports and presentation materials and incorporate sustainable design methods in buildings.
  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Participating in local Professional Associations.
  • Responsible for quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.

Is this role right for you?
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • 8 or more years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components, including experience working on hospital projects.
  • AutoCAD and Revit MEP proficiency.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, OSHPD, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, FGI/ASHRAE 170, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality and NFPA.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work.
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels and commercial/financial awareness.
  • The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Professional Engineering License in US.
  • LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
  • Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.

San Francisco Hiring Range - Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in San Francisco is $129,100 to $146,700 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of San Francisco will differ.
