Job summary

Arup's Dallas mechanical team is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC design across diverse projects. You will shape airside and hydronic systems, work with stakeholders and code officials, and mentor engineers on mid- to large-scale initiatives aimed at decarbonization and resilient building performance.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, deliver integrated design deliverables, and present technical material to audiences of varying technical levels while advancing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering required.
• 8+ years of professional HVAC design experience for medium to large buildings.
• Familiarity with CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED energy efficiency and indoor air quality NFPA.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for teamwork.
• Experience leading 3+ engineers on medium to large projects, including delegation and review.
• Excellent prioritization, organization, and ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity:

• Leading mechanical engineering designs and providing multi-disciplinary design leadership on projects. Design of mechanical systems including complete airside systems, heating and cooling hydronic plant systems, specialty exhaust systems, and steam systems.
• Working in collaboration with different stakeholders and code officials to deliver integrated projects through construction.
• Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to deliver comprehensive and coordinated design deliverables.
• Assisting, supervising or mentoring team members and delivering timely feedback and recognition to others.
• Maintaining strong client relations as it pertains to project delivery and repeat business.
• Preparing drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials as well as incorporating sustainable design methods in buildings.
• Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences.
• Participating in local Professional Associations.
• Responsible for maintaining quality standards, commercial metrics, and client relations for projects.

Is this role right for you?

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
• 8 or more years of professional experience designing and building HVAC systems, including airside and hydronic system components for medium to large scale buildings for institutional, scientific or healthcare related use buildings.
• Familiarity with codes and standards, specifically CMC, IECC/ASHRAE 90.1, LEED energy efficiency and indoor quality and NFPA.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for team-based work.
• Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels.
• Experience managing project discipline teams of 3+ engineers on medium to large projects, including delegation & review of work of others, and managing team’s effort to meet a stated budget.
• The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and exceptional organization skills are required for our constantly evolving environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Professional Engineering License in the US.
• LEED Accreditation or WELL Certification.
• Engineering analysis and energy modeling experience including whole building energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modeling.
• Project management experience (such as managing multiple disciplines, project financial management, client management).

Dallas Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Dallas is $135,000 to $150,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Dallas will differ.
