Job summary

EnergyX in Austin, Texas seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead demonstration and commercial lithium separation systems. You will own key equipment packages, coordinate with vendors, and translate design requirements into practical, cost-effective plant configurations.

You will review PFDs/P&IDs, prepare data sheets, and support scale-up from demonstration to commercialization while ensuring operability and total installed cost targets. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5-10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in chemical processing, minerals processing, water treatment, or similar industrial environment.
• Experience developing, reviewing, and checking PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, general arrangement drawings, and vendor packages.
• Working knowledge of piping systems, valves, pumps, pressure vessels, filters, coalescers, columns, evaporators, tanks, heat exchangers, and reactors.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
• EPC experience for chemical plants.
• Knowledge of ASME, DIN/EN, and related regulatory requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment and work with vendors across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering activities for demonstration and commercial lithium separation systems.
• Translate PDP/PDS requirements into practical, reliable equipment and plant designs.
• Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, utilities, hydraulic calculations, and equipment data sheets.
• Collaborate with process engineers, operations, vendors, and partners to scale up from demonstration to commercialization.
• Support optimization, modification, troubleshooting, and ramp-up of two demonstration plants.
• Own vendor engagement for major process equipment packages and evaluate vendor proposals.
