Job description

BAE Systems is seeking a proactive Sr. Mechanical Engineer with analytical capabilities and demonstrated technical expertise. This individual will design, develop, and test dynamic electronic military systems, working closely with hardware integrated into complex countermeasure and electromagnetic attack solutions, including electronic warfare systems.

The selected candidate will execute tasks individually and in small teams throughout the product lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, qualification, and manufacturing transition. Responsibilities include developing robust hardware solutions, performing detailed design and analyses, generating 3D models and drawings, conducting tolerance and environmental analyses, and supporting testing and verification with prototypes.

The engineer will collaborate with other disciplines and support resolution of manufacturing and testing issues, including troubleshooting mechanical faults and designing test equipment. Essential experience includes:

  • Design and analysis of electromechanical hardware and systems
  • Support of DoD military electronics/avionics
  • Use of mechanical engineering design tools
  • Design of multilayer CCAs
  • Prototyping and testing
  • Laboratory experience with instrumentation
  • Knowledge of MIL standards and industry standards like ASTM, SAE, DO
  • Engineering documentation and presentation skills

The role requires full-time onsite work due to collaboration needs.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering + 5+ years' experience (or 4+ years with master's)
  • Experience in product development/support of DoD military electronics
  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, analysis, and documentation
  • Proficiency with modern mechanical engineering software
  • Knowledge of engineering development processes
  • Eligibility for DOD Security Clearance
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Manufacturing, production, and sustainment experience
  • Design/development of complex mechanical systems and hardware
  • Experience with electronic circuit card assemblies
  • Proficiency with ANSYS, PTC Creo, MATLAB/Simulink, Siemens NX, ANSYS Icepak
  • Knowledge of DFM principles
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivated problem solver with team experience
  • Computer skills in MS Office and technical programs
