Job summary

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a Sr Associate, Mechanical Engineering in Salt Lake City to design and deliver rugged defense communication hardware from concept through producibility. The role emphasizes Design for Excellence, environmental robustness, and collaboration with cross-functional teams across engineering and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will support prototypes, verifications, and risk-reduction activities while preparing documentation for production.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Aeronautical/Civil Engineering or have completed their degree within the last 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Develop optimized mechanical solutions for ruggedized defense communication equipment, including enclosures, chassis, thermal solutions, cable routing, and other hardware assemblies.
• Apply Design for Excellence (DfX) principles—manufacturability, assembly, test, reliability, maintainability, sustainment—to improve robustness and environmental performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance cost, performance, and producibility.
• Create and maintain mechanical design documentation including 3D models, drawings, tolerances, and change packages.
• Work with suppliers and manufacturing to resolve producibility challenges and prepare for production.
• Support prototype builds, design verification and validation testing, root cause investigations, and corrective actions.
• Contribute to product qualification and risk-reduction efforts for shock, vibration, and thermal/environmental requirements.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
