Job summary

NOV is seeking a Custom Machine Design Engineer III in San Antonio, TX to lead development of one-off equipment such as CNC winders and hydraulically/electrically driven machinery. You will design, fabricate, install, startup, and troubleshoot specialized equipment, producing detailed drawings and BOMs with tight tolerances.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred), 5–10+ years in custom equipment design, and proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required (Master’s preferred).
• Onsite role located in San Antonio, TX.
• 5–10+ years in custom equipment design.
• Experience with composite manufacturing is a plus.
• Detailed fabrication drawings and BOMs in AutoCAD/ SolidWorks with tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Provide project leadership in custom machine design to optimize equipment performance.
• Collaborate with product design engineering to define technical specifications.
• Prototype new processes and equipment to support manufacturing.
• Translate requirements into detailed specs for equipment development.
• Analyze and optimize industrial processes for efficiency and layout.
• Recommend improvements using latest technologies and best practices.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers for automation integration.
• Ensure alignment between product requirements and equipment design.
• Design test equipment and procedures for evaluating performance and reliability.
• Source components and oversee fabrication and assembly with vendors.
