Job summary

Koch Finishing Systems in Caledonia, Michigan, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and integrate custom automated capital equipment from concept through startup. The role involves applying engineering principles to deliver safe, reliable systems for finishing processes.

You will perform structural calculations, specify materials, and collaborate with controls, fabrication, and project teams to meet performance, safety, and quality requirements for plating, anodizing, and related lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering experience with custom automated machinery or capital equipment.
• Experience with structural analysis, material selection, tolerances, and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, servo motion, and sheet metal/weldment design.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks or Inventor); PLM/PDM is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engineer custom automated capital equipment from concept through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
• Perform structural/tank design calculations, material selection, and corrosion considerations.
• Translate customer requirements into manufacturable equipment solutions.
• Collaborate with controls, project managers, and fabrication teams for integrated systems.
• Own mechanical scope end-to-end, including field troubleshooting.
• Produce 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar).
• Assess customer budgets and timelines to develop effective solutions.
• Participate in customer design reviews and support project scheduling.
