Job summary

McKinstry in Chicago, IL seeks a Senior Associate Engineer - Mechanical to lead design and execution of high-performance building projects within our DBOM framework. The role emphasizes collaborative leadership, lifecycle performance, and strong client relationships, with a focus on energy efficiency and reliability.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of mechanical design experience, PE license, Revit expertise, and a track record in multi-disciplinary delivery for complex facilities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, preferably in complex commercial buildings or energy infrastructure.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NCEES Multi-State License preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering efforts on complex, multi-discipline projects.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, central plants, energy conservation measures, and mechanical design.
• Experience with Revit (5+ years preferred) and familiarity with CAD/BIM platforms.
• Experience with energy modeling software such as IES VE, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Elite CHVAC or similar.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, VBA, Python, InDesign or similar tools is a plus.
• Onsite construction experience is highly valued.
• LEED, WELL or other sustainability accreditation is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to successful delivery of data center projects and clients.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver best-in-class designs.
• Lead engineering teams through projects meeting schedule, scope, budget and expectations.
• Monthly track project performance.
• Participate in all phases of project planning and execution to ensure seamless delivery.
• Prepare comprehensive proposals aligning scopes of work with client needs and budgets.
• Build and nurture long-term relationships with customers to support project success.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license
