Job summary

Textron Systems, within the Sea Systems division, seeks a Mechanical Engineer III to advance autonomous surface vehicle technologies. The role covers design, simulation, construction, and field-testing of subsystems for unmanned platforms, delivering robust mechanical solutions and detailed engineering documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including preparation of design documentation.
• Experience with mechanism development, generating Free Body Diagrams, performing basic static/dynamic/structural hand calculations, prototyping, packaging, performance specifications, material tests, and research investigations.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware engineering activities within a team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers.
• Develop imaginative, thorough, practicable technical solutions to a wide range of challenging Mechanical Engineering problems.
• Contribute to concept development as part of internal cross-functional design teams, including prototyping, production, and test support.
• Perform detailed design of mechanical structures and subsystems using solid modeling, requirements analysis, trade studies, mechanical engineering analysis (including structural, dynamics, and thermal), drafting and tolerance analysis, and human interface design.
• Prepare high-quality formal engineering documentation such as drawings, specifications and design presentations to customers.
• Brief peers, management, and customers on design considerations and program status.
• Prepare and/or manage design change documentation via Engineering Change Notices/Engineering Change Proposals.
